Rested and Akansasized

Yes, I know it has been a while since I have posted on this here blog. So, here is how my 4 day Memorial Day weekend went. First of all let me preface this with, I have been with a wonderful man (Nick) for enough time to where he has decided I must meet his mother. I have heard many wonderful stories about her so, the idea of meeting the woman who raised such a terrific individual made me nervous. Any who, I took the day off on Friday and we (Nick and I) drove down to Camp, Arkansas. This is about 14 miles southwest of Mammoth Spring.

I have to say Nick's mother is so incredibly sweet and welcoming. I felt like I was a member of the family from the moment I walked up. Never once was there an awkward moment. The night we arrived there had been a storm so power was knocked out. We just sat on the porch for a good hour or so and chatted. At one point Nick and I left to go drop off some food to the BBQ planned for Sunday. I met some of his aunts, uncles and his grandma. The night was finished out with his mom and I chatting at the dinner table. The comfortable laid back atmosphere reminded me of the talks I have with my grandmother. It was just perfect.

Day 2, we went to the Walmarts (that’s what Nick's mom calls it. its really cute to hear it with her slight southern drawl). Nick had to buy some stuff to set up his mom's computer. On Sunday we had the big family reunion BBQ. Tons of kids running around. I met so many people and heard so many little secrets about family members that I think my brain is still trying to process everything.

Ok, well, I think I’m going to cut off the details because they might seem boring to you. All in all it was a great weekend. I had a relaxing time and cannot wait to spend more time with his family in the future.

Longest week ever

So far this week has been going by at a slugs pace. I sit here at my computer looking up mindless things on wikipedia. Here are some examples:

I read the whole history of the TV Soap Opera "Another World" since the series ended they have all of the major plot details. So, its just like i watched the whole series! (Yes, this was very exciting)

I moved on from TV shows after finding out that the house that Lorelai Gilmore lives in on the show Gilmore Girls was originally Uncle Jesse's from The Duke of Hazzard. That and i accidentally read what is going to happen on the very FINAL episode of Charmed. (if you want to know just seach Charmed no Wikipedia)

The next thing i figured out is that you can just enter in a date and it will have a couple of lists that you can look at; important events, births, deaths, and holidays. Here are some from September 18:
in the year 96 - Nerva is proclaimed Roman Emperor after Domitian is stabbed to death.
1970 - Jimi Hendrix dies of a sleeping pill overdose.
1990 - 500 lb Hershey's Kiss is displayed at Times Square.
As for births... i only share with one cool person Lance Armstrong (i'm sure there are other cool ones... i just don't feel like mentioning them)

The best part about my birthday is its Chile's Independence Day: The 18th, or "dieciocho," is celebrated during a week full of fiestas patrias. This includes parades, dances, drinking, eating traditional Chilean food, and music.

So, you can guess what i plan to do on my birthday this year... Chilian Party!!!!

Cruises

Ok, so, I’m fully going to admit right now that I’m super jealous of my friends who have recently gone on cruises. Sally went on one to Belize, Cozumel, and Honduras. Tim and Bree went to the Bahamas and tons of other cool places. This on top of the Key West Real World is making me long for a vacation to a tropical oasis. Seriously, I look at the pics Bree and Tim took and I just want to jump into the pictures.

Personally I want to go to Jamaica. I saw a special on Jamaica on the Travel Channel. It looks fricken amazing. I've been looking into it and flights to Miami from StL are only $165 round trip and the cruise is only $319 (for 5 nights). This is all in September... I would think of it as a birthday gift to myself.

Nothing too exciting has gone on for me in these last weeks. Today was my first dining experience at Ryan's Steakhouse/buffet. Let's just say it’s safe to say that I will not be going there very often. Or maybe next time I will bring a fierce appetite. Ok, so I do have something exciting to report today is apparently Star Wars Day! Get excited people... ohh and on that note they are releasing the original versions of the first 3 (actually 4, 5, and 6) on DVD. By this i mean the ones that don't have stupid scenes of a young Jabba the Hut and bad music. I know i'm elated.
